Dear Parents/Carers, 

 

I hope that you have all had a fantastic Easter break. I am looking forward to teaching our new topic, Blast Off! and If you go down to the woods .... 

Curriculum  

 An outline of what we will be covering in each subject area is displayed in the table below:

Forest Schools 

 

Clover Class will continue to take part in Forest School once a week on a Thursday morning. They should arrive in school wearing a complete change of clothes with their waterproofs in a bag and bring their school uniform to change into afterwards. 

 

Reading 

You should encourage your child to read daily at home and they have a reading diary in which to record their progress. Please record a comment in these at least three times a week.  

The diaries will be checked once per week on a Friday. Please continue to use your speed sounds books to practice your child’s sounds daily. 

Please make sure you send your child’s speed sound book into school daily and look for the post-it which highlights which sounds to practice at home. 

 

 

If you or anyone you know would be interested in coming into school to help listen to children read, please send me an email as we would love to have you. 

 

 

What your child needs in school 

The children must have a named water bottle with them in school at all times which will be placed in a box in the classroom each morning. No other items need to be brought into school; this includes fidget toys, pencil cases, toys and stationery, unless adults in school request it or it is required to support additional needs. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Uniform 

Please consult the school website or recent letter to see what is expected to be worn to school in terms of uniform and PE kit. Smart trainers may be worn if they are completely black. Please make sure your child brings a coat into school as the weather can still be very changeable. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bags and Wellies 

The children may bring in one bag, which must be a suitable size for hanging on their pegs, and a separate, named bag for their wellies (both of which must be named) to be stored on the welly rack.

I hope that you have all had a fantastic Christmas holiday and I wish you all a Happy New Year. I am looking forward to watching your children continue to grow in confidence, excitement and enthusiasm over the next half term.  

 

Curriculum  

Our next Learning Means the World unit is called ‘Over the Rainbow’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ which explores different weathers, seasonal colours, the story ‘Wizard of Oz’ and Dinosaurs and the Stoneage. An outline of what we will be covering in each subject area is displayed in the table below:

They should arrive in school wearing a complete change of clothes with their waterproofs in a bag (waterproofs alone will not be enough as the weather gets wetter and muddier) and bring their school uniform to change into afterwards.

You should encourage your child to read daily at home and they should have a reading diary in which to record their progress. Please record a comment in these at least three times a week. Year 1 children should hand their diaries in once a week on a Thursday morning to be checked by staff in school. 

Please continue to use your speed sounds books to practice your child’s sounds daily. 

Please make sure you send your child’s speed sound book in to school daily and look for the post-it which highlights which sounds to practice at home. 

 

If you or anyone you know would be interested in coming into school to help listen to children read, please send me an email as we would love to have you.

Dear Parents/Carers, 

 

I hope that you have all had a restful half term and are looking forward to the rest of the autumn term, in the run up to Christmas! I am looking forward to watching your children continue to grow in confidence, excitement and enthusiasm over the next half term.  

 

Curriculum  

Clover Class loved the ‘Tell us a story’ unit as part of our Learning Means the World curriculum. 

Our next Learning Means the World unit is called ‘Under the Sea’, which explores learning about sea creatures, boats, different shades of blue as well as exploring different music and instruments.

  Welcome to Clover Class 

 Autumn Term 2023 

  

Dear Parents/Carers, 

  

I hope that you have all had a lovely summer holiday and are looking forward to the Autumn term ahead. It is already looking to be a busy one with lots of exciting things happening!  

  

Curriculum  

As a whole school we will be continuing to develop our ‘Learning Means the World’ curriculum. This is a thematic approach to learning through a global curriculum that has been designed to help pupils acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to thrive in the twenty-first century. 

  

This curriculum is divided into four main areas known as the 4Cs: Communication, Conflict, Culture and Conservation. Our first whole school area of focus will be Communication which will cover listening, talking confidently, exchanging ideas and explaining clearly. 

  

Clover Class’s first Core Unit is called ‘Tell us a story’ which is based around Fairy Tales and Traditional Tales. Please see the attached WhISK (What I Should Know) sheet for further information.

Reading 

You should be sharing stories with your child at home every day. Please record a comment in the home/schoolbook at least three times a week about the books you have shared or letters you have practiced. Once we begin learning our letter sounds, we will send a book home for you to practice the letter sounds at home. There is a list of questions stuck in the cover of the home/school  book to give you some ideas about sharing stories. 

  

What your child needs in school 

The children must have a named water bottle with them in school at all times which will be placed in a box in the classroom each morning. No other items need to be brought into school; this includes fidget toys, pencil cases, toys and stationery, unless adults in school request it or it is required to support additional needs. Spare clothes can be left on your child’s peg. If the weather is hot the children will need a hat in school.

We will also be beginning a story telling session in school following the principles of Tales toolkit. This is a new initiative in school and we are very excited to be developing this area of the curriculum.
