Times Tables
Times Tables
When your child reaches Year 4, they will sit for their Statutory Multiplication Tables Check in the Summer Term, therefore we endeavour to teach your child their tables from 1 -12 by then. Being confident with times tables is a valuable Maths and life skill. We use them in everyday life and knowing them with rapid recall opens up so many mathematical concepts. At Pulham, it begins with counting in Reception, then building upon this with discussing the concept of "equal groups of" before then learning the times tables in the following order.
Reception - Daily counting
Year 1 - Counting in 1s, 2s, 5s & 10s
Year 2 - 2s, 5s & 10s tables
Year 3 - 3s, 4s & 8s tables
Year 4 - 6s, 7s, 9s, 11s & 12s
Year 5 & 6 - practise and repetition 1 - 12 times tables multiplication and division facts
We encourage children to look for patterns and links between the tables as well as the learning the associated division facts.
Maths Shed is a brilliant place to practise times tables with a specific game for children preparing for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check which is set out similarly to the actual assessment.
